Meet Nils Nordtorp – Technical Coordinator & Procurement Manager at Baltic Cable

Nils Nordtorp

With a background in engineering and decades of hands-on experience in the energy sector, Nils Nordtorp has a key role in Baltic Cable’s technical operations. Since joining the company in 2010, he has coordinated complex repairs, managed offshore operations, and helped ensure the interconnector between Sweden and Germany runs with high reliability.

We asked Nils a few questions for you to get to know him better:

Can you explain your role as Technical Coordinator & Procurement Manager at Baltic Cable?
“My role covers a bit of everything on the technical side. I support and coordinate technical projects, manage contracts, and lead cross-border initiatives like cable repairs and shared systems. I’ve also taken part in five offshore cable faults – with the training and certifications needed to be onboard repair vessels.”

What inspired you to pursue a career in the energy industry?
“I grew up with hydropower on the farm back in Norway, so energy has always been part of my life. I enjoyed math in school and eventually studied energy engineering in Germany. It just made sense to follow that path.”

What projects are you working on right now?
“I am constantly involved in different maintenance and repair projects to support that the Baltic Cable is operational for many more years to come. In my daily business work I also manage supplier contracts and relationships, invoices, and coordinate with colleagues across both countries.”

What do you enjoy most about your work at Baltic Cable?
“There’s a lot of variety. After working at large companies, I appreciate the flexibility and responsibility here. We’ve entered a new phase at Baltic Cable, and I want to contribute as long as I can. I still find it interesting and meaningful.”

How would you describe Baltic Cable’s role in the energy sector?
“We’re a crucial link between Sweden and Germany. When I started, people questioned our future – now, our importance has only grown. We play a vital role in the stability and flexibility of the European energy grid.”

What do you like to do outside of work?
“I enjoy spending time in the garden and fixing things around the house. During the winter I love to go skiing, especially in Norway, and when there’s no snow I play disc golf and stay active.”
