We Deliver Reliable Capacity
Baltic Cable AB owns and operates the Baltic Cable interconnector – a vital submarine power cable connecting the transmission grids of Germany and Sweden. For more than 30 years, we have enabled cross-border power exchange to strengthen the integrated electricity market – for the benefit of Europe's security of electricity supply.
As an Interconnector Transmission System Operator (TSO), we strengthen the European electricity system by enabling the exchange of electricity across the continent. Through our asset – a submarine high‑voltage direct current (HVDC) power cable, we provide stable and reliable capacity to ensure that clean energy can flow efficiently to where it is needed. This is our contribution to a secure, competitive and increasingly renewable European electricity system.
An Interconnector Transmission System Operator
Interconnector TSOs, like Baltic Cable, are specialised entities operating one or more interconnectors that connect the electricity markets of two member states and AC grid areas. Interconnector TSOs are fully certified and fully regulated. Unlike control area TSOs, interconnector TSOs have neither control area responsibilities, customers, or tariffs. Their main source of income is congestion income.
Interconnector TSOs can play a significant role at the electricity market.
