Meet Björn Frid – Chief Security Officer at Baltic Cable

BCA Hemsidan Bjorn Frid

Björn has an extensive background in the Swedish Armed Forces as officer and chief security officer. He continued to work with security related matters at both energy companies and infrastructure institutions, before joining Baltic Cable in 2024, a smaller but equally critical piece of electricity infrastructure.

We asked Björn a few questions for you to get to know him better:

What do you do in your role as Chief Security Officer at Baltic Cable?

“I manage all security issues: guidelines, policies, information security, cyber security and crisis preparedness. I also manage operational security issues and physical security of our assets: the cable, the converter stations, office spaces and our employees. But security is not just my responsibility – it’s everyone’s. We work together to ensure the security of our operations.”

What inspired you to pursue a career in the energy industry?

“I have always been drawn to critical infrastructure that are important to Sweden. Baltic Cable, as an important actor in the Swedish and European electricity system, caught my interest with the role’s clear focus on development.”

What projects are you working on right now?

“Across Europe, the focus on resilience and security continues to grow. With the introduction of new EU directives, companies like ours are required to ensure robust processes and structures are in place. At Baltic Cable, we are strengthening our security posture, from updated protective measures at our stations to the development of internal frameworks covering civil preparedness, risk assessments, and crisis and continuity planning. It’s about readiness, resilience, and responsibility – ensuring that critical infrastructure can continue to support society in all situations.”

What do you enjoy most about your work at Baltic Cable?

“No day is ever the same and I have very nice and competent colleagues! It’s unfortunate what drives the need for my work, but it’s an incredibly challenging and fascinating role, especially given today’s geopolitical uncertainty. My line of work has never been more in demand.”

What do you like to do outside of work?

“I have grown kids which gives me the time to travel. I have practice karate for 35 years and this is often the reason for visiting new countries an participate in competitions. My last trip was to the European Championships in Riga”
